Dateline: St. Thomas. 9:26 p.m. Two blog posts in the same day? Yes, dear reader. That's right. Took, literally, an "Act of God" to make it happen. Hurricane Omar is strengthening and approaching. Looks like it will roll over St. Thomas sometime very early tomorrow morning. As you can see, the local newspaper presented a very dignified article in relation to the storm this morning.
The Virgin Islands have, of course, a history of hurricanes including some very serious strikes. Some time I might relate some of the stories I've heard. It's pretty nuts. After Hurricane Marilyn in 1995, there was no power to parts of the island for SIX MONTHS. Having spent many random short periods sans power, I frankly can't imagine it. I would find me another island someone I think.
My landlord and I spent a couple hours boarding things up here at the ranch. I think it is pretty secure, but what the hell do I know? Someone told me a couple years ago that to be considered a true resident of the Virgin Islands, I had to live here seven years OR three years and a hurricane. Hello Status.
I shall be updating my one-man team coverage of the storm as events warrant - or at least as long as power lasts.
